Darkroom

Spent all day in the darkroom. What a change honestly from years of being purely digital. Processed 6 sheets of 12x20 FP4 (for my notes... Ilfotec, 1:31, 5:30 @68 deg...nice negs). Printed one negative of the view looking west from the west slope of the Teton Dam. Looking up the valley it is interesting to see the erosion patterns, comparing it to the erosion patterns I see in Inkom, Pocatello and Downy from the Bonneville Flood. Darren made some nice images looking downstream from the top of the dam. The prints are drying. I'll shoot a .jpg of them tomorrow for ye ol' blog.

Printing the 12x20's on some old Forte I had from Portland. 20 or so sheets that aren't too fogged. I thought I'd use them up before getting to the paper I just got from Freestyle...some modern Forte (the company has changed hands several times in the past years...). Anyway, printing the 12x20's onto 20x24 sheets of paper is technically challenging.

I have made a very large contact printer out of a piece of tempered glass I had made, which I unfortunately had made the wrong size for my plateburner. I kept it not knowing what to do with it, but then when I wanted to make the contact printer, it is the perfect size. Had a piece of 1/2 inch MDF cut, hinged it with the glass with some duct tape, and voila, instant huge contact printer. The glass is very heavy, 1/4 inch, so no clamps are needed.

The sink is only big enough for 3 trays, so processing is a bit tricky.

The prints in the trays are beautiful. I still think that prints look the best in the darkroom when they're wet.

Fridays are nice. No class, very few students in the lab, and so I have plenty of time to do what I want to. Radio sucks in Rexburg...still debating that iPod. Could have gotten it if I hadn't bought a spit-load of paper recently. Oh well...I will have to just listen to running water or the radio in the darkroom. Poor me...I know.

Thinking about going out and shooting tonight...also thinking about getting some DVD's and heading back to the trailer instead.

We'll see where I end up.
