Reflections
I was asked to be one of the judges for the elementary school's Reflections contest. There are several categories, and since my daughter didn't enter the photography category, they asked me if I would judge it. Apparently I'm qualified.
There were some good judging criteria guidelines offered, I thought I would share them. They sound pretty familiar with how I try to run my class critiques.
"We are looking for that unique entry that shows the emotion and the heart of the children and young people who enter this program. Remember as you review the entries that you will see that we judge with an emphasis on the following areas:
1. Creativity
2. Interpretation of the theme
3. Artistic Merit
Remember that the entries must demonstrate the theme
2007-08 Reflections Theme:
"I Can Make a Difference By..."
All entries will be judged in the following three areas. There are 10 points possible in each area for a total of 30 points.
Interpretation of theme
9-10 Excellent - The work represents the theme very well
6-8 Good - The work partially interprets the theme
3-5 Fair - The work only marginally interprets the theme
0-1 Poor - The work does not represent the theme
Creativity and Originality
9-10 Excellent - Presents the idea in a new or unusual way
6-8 Good - Presents the idea in a fairly new way
3-5 Fair - Idea presented is trite or overused
0-1 Poor - Idea is taken from another source
Artistic Merit
9-10 Excellent - The work is artistically pleasing
6-8 Good - The work is mostly artistically pleasing
3-5 Fair - The work eliminates some artistic merits
0-1 Poor - The work is below age level
Well, that is the judging criteria...here are the entries.

There were a few that were actually pretty good, but most went for the obvious. I'm still trying to figure out what 'artistic' means.
