Stansbury Island

Yesterday Connor, the dog and I went to Stansbury Island to try to find some petroglyphs. Hiked around for about 4-ish hours but didn't find them. I had *general* directions, but they clearly weren't good enough to find them.

I let Connor drive the Range Rover around for a while. He said his legs were shaking when he got out. He did a great job and took direction very well. I want to get him used to the car WAY before he starts drivers ed.

He hiked around with me looking for the rock art. Here's a shot of us up high on our fruitless search. We had fun, but I have to go back and find them. Maybe tomorrow...it's a holiday.

Trolley Square

Last week on February 12th a terrible shooting happened at Trolley Square in Salt Lake City. 5 people were senselessly gunned down and killed by a mindless freak. No explanations, no reasons, no nothing. Now I'm no anti-gun nut, but this 18 year old kid had a shotgun and a .38 and he decided to try to kill as many people as he could. Makes me want to buy that 9mm.

Some SLC police, an off-duty Ogden Police Officer and the SLC SWAT unit ended up dispatching the idiot. Many heroes in the non-police community pitched in and saved many lives also. What a tradgedy. A girl I used to work with at Overstock.com was also killed. One of my students was indirectly involved with some that were shot and one that was killed. Very sad.

I had to go back on Wednesday (Valentines Day), to show my support for the shop owners. I went to Williams-Sonoma to buy a butter dish for Polla (yeah, how romantic...), but they were still closed. I ended up the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory to buy some chocolates instead.

Of course I had to take my camera. The mall was very empty, but a few dozen folks milling around checking it out, and a small group of people were kneeling and crying at one of the spots where someone had been killed. I made one exposure then put the camera away.
