Sunday
Wow, what a Sunday. 5 of us in the group decided that we wanted to go to church with the LDS serviceman's branch, so we crammed into a tiny little cab and headed over. This is the same church that I served in, so it was neat to go back in and kind of remember in a ghosty haze what it was like 17 years ago. It really doesn't seem like it's been that long. It was a very good meeting, and I considered it an honor to attend church with members serving here in the military and working in other various capacities. I honestly feel a bit of a bond with anyone that's spent any amount of time here, and it was time well spent.
We sent the girls back to the guest house and the remaining 3 of us went on a walk. We found a marketplace that sold just about every type of food imaginable, and we made a lot of good aquaintences and some decent images. Always nice to connect with the folks you are photographing, and these women selling vegetables, meat and other things I'm really not sure of got a big kick out of us. Of course me speaking Korean is always a big hit, and a definite ice-breaker. They were glad to give us tips on how to make our images better, and which shops were better looking than others.
We had another great meal...seems like they are everywhere, then walked home. Had a rather lazy afternoon then headed out about 6-ish to walk down to Chongno-3-ga to find the movie theater and find out if Pirates was playing. It opens on Wednesday, so we got tickets to another movie involving bullets and shooting and all kinds of craziness.
While we were killing the 1 1/2 hours of time, it seems that we accidentally stumbled onto the parade down Chongno-gil (road) celebrating Buddah's birthday. What a spectacle of lights, music, monks, children and floats of all kinds. Kind of like the Buddhist parade of roses if you will.
Made a lot of nice images, and even climbed up onto the top of a 6-story building to shoot down on the parade. It was quite a sight, and was fun to see from up above.
I shot about 6gb worth of images today. I think a few are quite nice.
I keep seeing VERY nice cars.
